Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Original 1910 era hockey photos originating from families of players are practically non-existent. Player’s signatures from the era are even rarer. This lot contains an actual signed postcard and 2 different and possibly unique original photos of Hall of Famer Jack Darragh that were originally obtained from a family member! First we have a 1921 postmarked postcard that was sent from Vancouver to Ottawa by Jack Darragh, administered in pencil it states in full “Having wonderful weather here + having plenty of outings. Everybody fine and hope to get away from here this week”, signed “Jack”. The postcard itself is in very good condition with no issues infringing on the text or signature. Next we have the first of two photos with an image of Darragh in his Ottawa Senators jersey that appears to be from the early teens, and it's in excellent condition. Measuring 7” x 10”, it’s housed in its original period frame. The second photo is an oval cabinet style image that’s on its original mount, and it too appears to be in the original frame measuring at 5” x 7”. Taken by renowned Ottawa photographer Pittaway, his info and monogram are on the bottom right portion of the mount. In beautiful condition, the image shows Darragh in a wool hockey sweater, and judging from his youthful visage, the team is most likely the Ottawa Cliffsides of the OCHL who Jack played with in 1909-10. The perfect companion pieces to the signed Darragh postcard, these unique photos will fit nicely into even the most advanced world class antique or Silver Seven hockey collection. Please see the Classic Auctions website for additional one-of-a-kind items that will accompany this lot.
