Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Formed during the height of the Roaring Twenties and short-lived, the Quebec Castors (Beavers) played in the direct ancestor of the AHL, the Canadian–American Hockey League. The club disbanded in 1935, with owner Lucien Garneau transferring the franchise to Springfield, Massachusetts, to form the second incarnation of the Springfield Indians. Culled from Quebec programs by one diligent fan, we have a collection of 41 1934-35 Castors program inserts, accompanied by an original 1934-35 Quebec Castors program. At approx 5 ½” x 8 ½” and with duplication present, the thin-stock leaflets feature 14 different players and 10 different team management members, with a pair of matching inserts for Habs owner Leo Dandurand. Players include LaFrance, Wilson, Leduc, Raymond, Field, Runge, Phillips, Filmore, Buckles, Doran, Alexandre, Quenneville, Toupin and goaltender Abbie Cox. The majority of the inserts exhibit toning, with a few sporting minor water damage along with the odd crease or small edge tear. As an added bonus, a 1934-35 Castors program that would have originally housed one of the inserts is included, with moderate to heavy wear visible including rusting to the staples.
