Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
The perfect blue ballpoint autograph of legendary defenceman Doug Harvey, penned to the back of a postcard picturing the Hall-of-Famer in a Quebec Aces uniform, leads this intriguing stash, mostly from the 1962- 63 and ’63-64 seasons. The original owner added the years and the players’ positions and numbers in the top border of most, and in some cases included a quick description in French, like “tres courageux et travailleur” (very courageous and hard-working), on the card picturing Bill Dineen. Signing nice bold blue ballpoint autographs on the backs of their respective ’63-64 cards were Don Blackburn, Jim Morrison, John Hanna, “Keke” Mortson, Ed Hoekstra and Wayne Hicks, while other postcards (not signed) from the same year include those of Gump Worsley, Charlie Hodge (two different including one with an early mask), coach Floyd Curry, Skippy Burchell, Gerry Odrowski, Leon Rochefort, Jean Gauthier and others. Two cards identified as being from ’62-63 are autographed on the back; Bill Sutherland and Guy Rousseau, while other notables pictured include Dollard St. Laurent, Danny Lewicki, Terry Gray, Bob Courcy, Hodge, Dineen, Morrison, Hanna, goalie Serge Aubry and others. Cards are 3-1/2” by 5-1/2” and have survived in nice crease-free condition. Altogether, 43 picturing men who passed through hockey history-rich Quebec City.
