The late Toe Blake is renowned for his brilliance in coaching the Montreal Canadiens to eight Stanley Cup titles, but he was a Hall of Fame player with a championship pedigree of his own. On his way to winning the Cup three times as a player, Blake won this trophy as a member of the 1930-31 Northern Ontario Hockey Association senior champion Sudbury Wolves. This magnificent silver-plated trophy stands 10 1/4" tall with “NOHA Sudbury Senior Champions 1931 H. Blake” engraved on the slender two-handled cup that stands atop a round black wood base. Very nicely preserved trophy that dates back nearly 85 years has cleanable tarnish and a few small marks to the base, a precious award that was presented to the Old Lamplighter himself.
Sudbury won the Northern Ontario senior playoffs by defeating Iroquois Falls twice in the total-goals final, outscoring its opponents by a total of 6-3 overall. The Wolves went on to compete in the Eastern Canada Allan Cup playoffs. They beat Royal Military College 8-3 in the first round but lost the two-game total goals quarter final against the Hamilton Tigers.
