Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
A wonderful, thought-provoking 11” by 14” photo of three hockey giants looks to have been taken at the 1968 NHL All-Star Game, held at the Montreal Forum, with Gordie Howe, Jean Beliveau and Bobby Hull considered by some hockey followers of a certain age as the all-time greatest at their respective positions. Each icon autographed the reproduction of a David Bier original in blue sharpie, adding their respective nicknames. A little smudge in the “H” of Howe is to be aware of, but all-in-all, a superb display piece. Joining it are Sports Illustrated issues depicting/picturing and autographed by Howe (March 16, 1964) and Hull (June 19, 1972), with their nicknames and Hall of Fame induction years added, while Beliveau noted “1st Conn Smythe Winner – 1965” after signing the cover of the very first edition of Hockey World (May, 1966). All three magazines are in nice collectible EX condition with no unsightly flaws, with the two SIs accompanied by photos of Howe and Hull signing them. Meanwhile, a COA reveals that the Beliveau piece was autographed at a private signing in Ontario in 2007. Fantastique!
