Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Offered is Trevor Linden’s first NHL game-worn jersey, his 1988-89 Vancouver Canucks pre-season rookie gamer. Linden’s #49 black road jersey is the one he wore for four of the Canucks’ eight preseason games in 1988, including his first game against Los Angeles on September 16 in Duncan, B.C. Originally from the personal collection of Canucks Equipment Manager Larry Ashley, it has a Maska flag tag in the back of the neck that is sewn over by nameplate stitching. There is evidence of a former nameplate and the jersey was recycled from the previous season for Linden to use. Game wear includes black marks on the front tail and a long board burn on the front of the upper left sleeve.
Linden switched to #16 at the start of the 1988-89 regular season. The Canucks did wear nameplates on their jerseys in the 1988 preseason. Linden also wore this black road gamer for preseason games on Sept. 23,1988 in Winnipeg vs. the Jets, on Sept. 29, 1988 in Tacoma vs. the Winnipeg Jets, and on Oct. 1,1988 in Sacramento vs. the Minnesota North Stars. A photo shows Trevor wearing the #49 yellow jersey in the 1988 preseason. A close up is from the very first photo shoot the Canucks did in 1988-89, that was used for their Mohawk Gas team cards, which is Trevor's first NHL card. Even though you can't see the sleeve numbers, his haircut matches up to the team photo from that year, which shows Trevor wearing the #49 in black. The individual player photos were almost certain to have been shot on the same day as the team photo. Also, when looking at other Canuck players from the 1988-89 Mohawk Gas team set, it is clear that they are wearing their own jerseys. On Trevor's card, there is a long distinct black thread that sticks out on a diagonal from his left shoulder area at the collar which also seems to be the one on the jersey. There are stains on the back of the left sleeve. [red]Addendum; The orange/orange/orange CCM logo on hem is sewn over the previous year's black/black/gold CCM logo.[/red]
