Neat documents pertaining to hardrock Leafs defenceman Rick Ley in the early-1970s including a Feb. 27, 1972 typed letter from league president Clarence Campbell to Leafs GM Jim Gregory on NHL letterhead, advising Gregory that Ley must receive a $25 fine for receiving a misconduct penalty. The letter is signed in clear ballpoint pen by Campbell. Next is an original NHL Standard Player's Contract for Ley in 1971, noting his salary of $26,000 plus bonuses for plus/minus ($50), team goal average ($500), and for being over plus 20 ($500). The document is signed by Jim Gregory, Ley, and witness Howard Starkman, all in clear ballpoint, and includes an NHL Central Registry stamp. Finally, a 1972 Player's Contract for Ley, with a salary of $35,100.00 plus bonuses mirroring the previous year's contract, signed by President Harold Ballard but not by Ley, who would jump to the New England Whalers of the WHA beginning in 1972-73. All 3 documents remain is excellent condition with no tears or marks.
