A lot of players with big dreams certainly wouldn't have minded receiving one of these at some point in their hockey careers. Six different Try-Out Agreements from the Toronto Maple Leafs for prospects from around Canada, including a 1965 sheet for Martin Desmarais in Calgary, signed by HOFer George "Punch" Imlach (ind. 1984, dec. 1987), a 1964 example for Raymond Leclerc of Quebec, also signed by Imlach, a 1964 Agreement for Frank Ridley of Toronto, signed by Imlach, a 1973 form for Ron Clarke of Weston, signed by HOFer Jim Gregory (ind. 2007) and Howard Starkman, now a Jays executive (who at that time was the Leafs PR man). Plus one for Robert Burns of Hamilton in '71, signed by Gregory, and one for Guy de Saulnier of Charlottetown in '72, signed by Gregory and Starkman. These Agreements called for the team to pay expenses such as hotels, meals, and train fare etc. and in return the player agreed to show up at training camp at the requested time. Ray Leclerc would go on to found Mylec, a street hockey equipment company. Frank Ridley was a First Team All-Star with the Toronto Marlboros in the early ‘60s, while on the Second Team was a young fellow named Bobby Orr. These six documents all measure 8 ½” x 11”and along with the names mentioned, have also been signed by different witnesses. They’re all in great condition with staple holes in one corner, normal envelope folds, and various pen markings in places.
