The late Dick “The Monster” Radatz signed the barrel of this commemorative 1964 All-Star Game Louisville Slugger baseball bat. The hulking Boston Red Sox reliever, who died in 2005, finished off his second straight All-Star Game for the American League at Shea Stadium. After striking out five over the final two innings of the AL’s 5-2 loss in Cleveland in 1963, Radatz protected a 4-3 lead in the seventh and eighth one year later in the midseason classic at the Mets’ new ballpark but yielded the tying run on Orlando Cepeda’s RBI single in the ninth. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound right-hander then lost the game two outs later on a three-run homer by Philadelphia’s Johnny Callison. Radatz, who struck out against HOFer Juan Marichal to end the top of the ninth, signed in black marker below the “1964-All Star Game, Dick Radatz, Shea Stadium New York” stamp on the barrel. The Louisville Slugger stamp identifies this 35” long commemorative bat as being from the 1980s or more recent. It comes with a team-issued 8x10 photo of Radatz in his Red Sox uniform with a facsimile autograph.
