Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Originally on display in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, this marvellous display panel on foam board backing measuring 12 x 55 inches celebrates the achievements of 2006 HOF inductees, goaltending legend and present coach and V.P. of Hockey Operations for the Colorado Avalanche, Patrick Roy, and American hockey innovator Herb Brooks. Dubbed Saint-Patrick by adoring fans, the man with the butterfly style racked up, among others, 3 Conn Smythe Trophies, 3 Vezinas, 4 Stanley Cups divided equally between the Canadiens and the Avs, saw duty in 11 All-Star games, and has his number 33 jersey retired in both Montreal and Denver. Herb Brooks left an indelible mark on the game of hockey, including stints with the New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars, and Pittsburgh Penguins, along with his memorable stint as bench boss during the historic U.S. Miracle on Ice Olympic Gold Medal victory in Lake Placid in 1980. And it goes without saying that his sudden passing in 2003 at age 66 left a huge gap in the impressive American hockey program. Both men were incredibly deserving of their Hall of Fame honour, and this plaque heralds them in wonderful fashion.
