Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

From Charlie Hodge's personal collection comes these fab four CCM/Art Ross Tyer (Buffalo) pucks, retained by Mr. Hodge after he had proudly recorded shutouts on these four nights during his Minor Pro and Junior years which included stints with the Montreal Jr. Canadiens, Montreal Royals, Cincinnati Mohawks, and Quebec Aces among others. The great goalie has tape marked "Ontario 51-52" with average wear and slight chipping on the edges of one of these biscuits, with the Art Ross label distinct and clear. A second, in Three Rivers during the '52-'53 campaign, shows slightly more chipping, with a clear and intact label. Hodge blanked the Windsor Spitfires, recorded as happening on Feb.1st, '53, with the usual scuffing and minor chipping found in all four, and with a fine clear label. The fourth puck shows our man blanking the other team 6-0, although the rest of the details on the tape are undecipherable. Charlie Hodge would go on to win five Stanley Cups with the Habs as well as capturing two Vezina Trophies along the way, and was a star in his own right while sharing duties as a Hab with incomparable Jacques Plante and later Gump Worsley before moving on to the Oakland Seals when the league expanded in 1967. These four shutout pucks, from his early minor-pro years before hitting the bigs, come with four separate and signed LOA's from the man himself. Absolutely fine mementoes from a great goalie’s early years.
