Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

American import Gary Wood would spend five years with the New York Giants and another with the New Orleans Saints before coming north and donning this game-used Ottawa Rough Riders helmet in the early-1970s. The Riddell gamer has that banged-up look, scuffed and battered, with a Riddell two bar facemask, and with the interior featuring a 6 point suspension system. Outlines of former number 10 stickers are visible on the front and back, with a number "10" sticker on the inside and handwriting that starts with "G" and the rest that looks to be "Wood". Nice gamer from a fine era of Riders football. This classic Riders helmet also has some soiling to the inner suspension, along with rusted areas at the metal rivets. It was also probably recycled for another player after Wood's departure from the team who played for the Riders in 1970 and 1971. All in all, a nice and significant piece of Ottawa Rough Riders history, from a quarterback who sits 10th in all-time Riders passing with 3816 yards.
