Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
The first appearance on hockey cards of Hall-of-Famers Barney Stanley and Herb Gardiner were on cards issued with Paulin’s Premium Hockey Bar, the 70-card set depicting players from Western Canada. Originally thought to have been a 1923-24 promotion but with extensive research leading to a change in the date of issue. Full sets of cards could be exchanged for a hockey stick, with redeemed cards featuring either a punch hole or a company stamp on the reverse, like that on the Stanley (#30) card here. It has been graded PR 1 (MK) by PSA and is joined by a heavily creased example of Gardiner’s #63 card, slabbed PR-FR 1 by PSA. Elusive cards, with less than two dozen of each ever having been submitted to PSA, will fill a couple of holes in a pre-war stash.
