Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
One of the hockey immortals featured in Imperial Tobacco card sets of the day, Art Ross was a star defenceman forging his legend the winter some smoker became the original owner of this treasure. Ross turned 26 in January of 1912 and was lighting it up himself, en route to scoring 16 goals in 18 games with the NHA's Montreal Wanderers. A top athlete in his youth, Ross starred in both hockey and football in the Westmount section of Montreal before playing on Stanley Cup winners with Kenora and the Wanderers. Card #31 here looks to be in the G-VG (or 2-3) neighbourhood, with minor chipping on a lower back edge likely denying it VG status. One of the key cards in the coveted C55 set.
