Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Exhibiting very minimal handling and made all the more attractive given that it was not available to the public is this special "souvenir" set of Shirriff coins, still in its original team color-coded box. The belief is that these special sets, along with a wooden board to display them, were presented to NHL owners and managers in appreciation for their participation in the promotion which became highly popular. Intermittent light scratches on the clear plastic "windows" are to report, with a few upgrades required, (detailed below), to form a sharp, near mint set with clean and bright-colored backs. The box top and bottom meanwhile show wear at the corners/edges and light soiling. Featuring the likes of Howe, Beliveau, Plante, Sawchuck, Hull and Mikita and the other Black Hawks who that season captured Lord Stanley's trophy, this attractive set awaits a vintage collectibles shrine. Johnny Bower’s #1 coin (VG) exhibits wear, with others to upgrade including 19-Ehman, 80-Ivan (small edge chip), 104-Bucyk (small edge chip) and 120-Schmidt (light sticky residue on the back).
