Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Splendid Original Six era collectibles and seldom offered in such large quantity are these Toronto Maple Leafs pencils from 1955-56 and '56-57 and manufactured by Newmarket, Ontario's Dixon Pencil Company. Condition is impressive, with sharp, non-faded player images, while un-catalogued examples present are those of George Armstrong, Billy Harris and Ron Stewart. Hall-of-Famers are Duff, Lumley and Pulford, while completing are Aldcorn, Balfour, Chadwick, Barry and Brian Cullen, James, Migay, Morrison, Reaume, Sloan, Smith, and Thompson. Never-sharpened pencils exhibit light to moderate toning, along with some darkening of the erasers, but one would be hard-pressed to piece together a nicer ensemble. An original cardboard sleeve, reminiscent of the outside of a cigarette pack, looks like it was produced yesterday and has never been folded/flattened(!), contributing to the appeal.
