Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

The key rookie card in the eyes of most hobbyists in O-Pee-Chee’s oversized card set of 1939-40 is that of Boston Bruins’ legendary goaltender Frank Brimsek, with this example of card #97 examined and graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Just one other similar Brimsek rookie has ever received higher recognition from PSA in the history of the grading firm than this Pop-5. The PSA Population Report informs of a total of 21 Brimsek RCs currently in PSA holders. The American-born goalie meanwhile had burst onto the NHL scene the season before appearing in the ’39-40 OPC set, leading the league with 33 wins, ten shutouts and a minuscule 1.56 GAA, before backstopping Boston to the Stanley Cup. Yes indeed, big-time!
