Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to pay tribute to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or “blotters” as they were referred to in an original ad, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm their scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s tempting ensemble featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce, with their numbers matching the players’ uniform numbers. ......Yet another seldom-seen encapsulated treasure, this coaster stars Bob Gracie, a North Bay, Ontario lad who won the Stanley Cup with Toronto in his first full big league season, before going on to play for, get this, the Bruins, Americans, Maroons, Canadiens and Black Hawks! Bob also was a Cup champion with the Maroons and takes the PSA title in his category with this Pop-1 GOOD 2 example, edging a FR 1.5, the only other Gracie coaster submitted to PSA in the past.
