Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to pay tribute to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or “blotters” as they were referred to in an original ad, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm their scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s stirring ensemble featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce, with their numbers matching the players’ uniform numbers. ......Hall-of-Famer Harvey “Busher” Jackson’s young age and shiftiness is among the information presented on this No. 11 coaster, with his team-high five goals in the Stanley Cup finals of 1932 a fact we’d like to add. Busher fired a hat trick in Game 1 of Toronto’s three-game sweep of the Rangers and scored in the other two games as well. This coaster scored GOOD 2 at PSA and is the only such piece ever to arrive at the company for examination. Extremely scarce indeed!
