Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to pay tribute to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or “blotters” as they were referred to in an original ad, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s tempting ensemble featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce, with their numbers matching the players’ uniform numbers. ......The playmaking center between Busher Jackson and Charlie Conacher on Toronto’s famed Kid Line, Joe Primeau helped his buddies combine for eight goals in the Leafs’ three-game sweep of the Rangers in the 1932 Stanley Cup finals and claims the PSA championship with this coveted O’Keefe’s coaster. Slabbed GOOD 2, it is the only Primeau coaster ever to be inspected and encapsulated by PSA and presents pre-war collectors with a terrific opportunity.
