Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to honor the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or “blotters” as they were referred to in an original ad, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s ultra-intriguing set featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce. ......The one and only King Clancy coaster ever sent to PSA for examination and thus a PSA champion, this blotter mentions Clancy’s four Stanley Cup championships and grades PR 1. The one and only King scored two goals in Game 2 of the 1932 finals, the Leafs beating the Rangers 6-2 in a game played in Boston because of the circus at Madison Square Garden, en route to a three-game sweep.
