Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to honor the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or blotters, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and tough to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s fascinating set featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce. ......Splendid eye candy is offered with this coaster of Hall-of-Famer Ace Bailey, one of just two Maple Leafs coasters ever to garner VG+ 3.5 recognition from PSA – the highest grade ever awarded by the company. Just one other Bailey, (a GOOD+ 2.5), appears on the PSA chart. Ace had the distinction of scoring the Stanley Cup-winning goal at Maple Leaf Gardens, with Toronto winning the clincher 6-4 to sweep the Rangers in three straight games in April of 1932.
