Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to honor the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or blotters, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s fascinating set featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce. ....Alex Levinsky was in his first full NHL season when he helped the Leafs to Lord Stanley’s silverware in the spring of 1932, his coaster reporting how he was the first and only Jew in “Major League Hockey." Not the first and only Levinsky recorded at PSA, this GOOD+ 2.5 example is barely edged by the only other Levinsky coaster ever encapsulated by PSA; a VG 3.
