Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A unique and very scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to honor the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or blotters, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s tempting set featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce. ....A smiling Red Horner is superbly depicted here, his #2 coaster, like the rest of his teammates, matching his uniform number. The Hall of Fame defenceman is presented as 202-pounds of soft-spoken red-headed dynamite, with a million dollar smile! One of just two Horner coasters ever slabbed by PSA, this VG 3 example is the nicest, distancing the one graded PR 1.
