Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Low population numbers and an intriguing athlete to tell you about here with this fabulous NM+ 7.5 card picturing Sandy Somerville in his University of Toronto hockey uniform. After starring at the U of T in rugby football, hockey and golf, Somerville won six Canadian Amateur golf championships and in 1932 became the first Canadian to win the U.S. Amateur golf title. Also one of Canada’s top cricket players, Sandy was named Canada’s top golfer for the first half of the 20th century. This Pop-1 NM+ 7.5 example of card #113 in Dominion Chocolate’s big 120-card multi-sport set just misses being the top Somerville (out of just seven) encapsulated by PSA since its founding, being edged only by one NM-MT 8.
