Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
What fun the high bidder here will have sifting through this intriguing pile of autographs and signed documents, led by a 1951 letter to the Rangers’ Frank Boucher from NHL president Clarence Campbell regarding a fine ($25!) for a misconduct penalty received by New York’s Reg Sinclair. On NHL letterhead, the correspondence concludes with a nice big Campbell blue ink signature. Other highlights include a 1946 National Bank of Tulsa check signed by Gus Marker (“August S. Marker”) and accompanied by a few personal Marker items, a 1946 player questionnaire filled out and signed by Lorne Ferguson, late-1930s autograph book pages signed in pencil by Paul Thompson, Roger Jenkins, Wilf Cude and Pep Kelly (all personalized except the Kelly), a Grecian Formula advertising postcard picturing and signed by Maurice Richard and two pieces autographed by Boston’s Woody Dumart; a 1980 Lake Placid Olympics first day cover and a black and white snapshot. A newspaper close-up of Mario Lemieux is nicely autographed by a then-young Mario. The aforementioned autograph book yielded some two dozen other signatures, many of them penciled by minor leaguers or senior amateurs, (with some of them personalized) and identified with team names such as the Montreal Concordias, Stock Exchange Brokers, Toronto Goodyears, Port Colbourne Sailors, Jamaica Hawks, Manhatten Arrows, New York Rovers, Atlantic City Sea Gulls (Vern Buckles, Jack Smith, Herb Turney, Ian Munro), Hershey Cubs, Brantford Redbirds (coach Leo Reise single-signed a page), St. John Beavers and Sands Point Tigers. All appear to be from the 1938-39 amd ’39-40 seasons, with a dozen miscellaneous index cards completing the stash, likely to produce a pleasant surprise or two.
