Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

Here's a great looking program from the very first Stanley Cup Final game of the expansion era, the opener of the 1968 Finals, played May 5, 1968 at the old St. Louis Arena. It matched the first year Blues, a cast-off collection of grizzled veterans and youngsters, against the powerful Montreal Canadiens, who'd finished atop the League in the regular season. Despite being overwhelming underdogs, the feisty Blues, backed by the unflappable Glenn Hall in goal and with aged ex-Habs Doug Harvey and Dickie Moore in their lineup, forced the Canadiens into overtime in Game #1, before rookie Jacques Lemaire scored the winner for Montreal. That would set the tone for the series, which was swept by the Canadiens, but saw each game decided by one goal, and Hall's efforts would result in him being awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. This was the 10th and last Cup win in the great career of coach Toe Blake, who retired following the final game. The program is complete, in pleasing EX+ condition, and full of photos and profiles of that memorable, first ever, St. Louis Blues team.
