Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A rare opportunity to put together a coveted collection of all 12 Montreal Canadiens promotional glasses issued in 1965 by the local Steinberg grocery store chain. Beliveau, Richard, J.C. and Gilles Tremblay, Rousseau, Backstrom, Provost, Talbot, Ferguson, Hodge, Laperriere and Worsley, all 12 players in the set are included in this sensational lot. Each thermal plastic cup features nice pastel artwork that includes a portrait and an action drawing of the Canadiens player, along with the team’s CH logo and the grocery store’s stylized yellow, green and orange S logo. Each player’s facsimile autograph appears on the paper inside the plastic cup, along with the artist’s signature. Only Jean Beliveau’s glass has a two-inch crack in the plastic, while the other 11 remain in excellent condition with no evidence of handling and all still having their original 0.39 cents price tag on the bottom. Complete it all in one shot, and we've included a small plastic stand, unrelated to the glasses, that would make a lovely display stand for the set. Also included are two sets of 24 cards from the 1982/1983 Steinberg Habs series, one set with the product labels removed and in the 4” x 5” plastic album Steinberg provided, while the other set of 24 includes the attached products labels with no accompanying album. Both sets are in excellent condition, with the ones in the album showing some slight yellowing on the top edges.
