The Detroit Red Wings have won more Stanley Cup Championships (11) of any N.H.L. franchise based in the United States, and are 3rd overall in total NHL Championships, behind only the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13)! As of 2013, the Red Wings have made the playoffs in the last 22 seasons in a row. This is the longest current streak of post season appearances in all of North American professional sports! The 2002 Stanley Cup was contested by the Red Wings, who won the Presidents' Trophy with the best regular season record, with 116 points, and the Carolina Hurricanes, who were making their first NHL Championship appearance. The Hurricanes stunned the Red Wings in game one of the Finals, on the strength of Ron Francis's overtime goal. That would be Carolina's only win in the series, as Detroit won 4 straight, including a triple overtime win in game three that proved to be the turning point in the series. The Red Wings became the first team in NHL history to win the Cup after starting the playoffs with 2 losses at home. After losing the first 2 games in their Conference Quarterfinal to the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit then won 16 of their next 21 games en route to win their 3rd Stanley Cup for Coach Scotty Bowman. Bowman's win was his 9th overall, establishing a new coaching record, surpassing the mark he held with Montreal coach, Toe Blake. The 11-time Stanley Cup champions received this unbelievable, massive, 14-karat gold championship ring that is not only extremely rare, but simply stunning! It commemorates the Red Wings' 10th Stanley Cup in franchise history, and with the exception of faux diamonds, is identical to what Steve Yzerman, Sergei Fedorov, Brendan Shanahan, Brett Hull, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Chelios, Luc Robitaille, Darren McCarty, Dominik Hasek, Igor Larionov, Kris Draper, Tomas Holstrom, Steve Duchesne, Pavel Datsyuk, Head Coach Scotty Bowman, and the rest of the team received! Crafted by world-renowned Intergold, all the correct manufacturer markings are stamped inside, along with the 14K gold stamp. This gorgeous ring is next to impossible to find, even as a manufacturer sample. There have been less than a half-dozen samples on the collectors market, and if you can even locate one, they are only 10K, with "Sample" on the side. This one is a whopping 60 grams of solid 14K, and has "Yzerman" on the shank! It is possible that this could be an additional Stanley Cup Ring that was made for a close friend, or family member of Steve Yzerman's. The size is a 12.5, it is in pristine condition, and would make an exceptional addition to any hockey collection!
