Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
The NHL All-Stars' goalie in the Ace Bailey Benefit Game, two-time Vezina Trophy winner Charlie Gardiner led the Chicago Black Hawks to their first Stanley Cup in the spring of 1934. A little over two months after he shut out Detroit in the Hawks' 1-0 double-overtime Cup clincher on April 10, Gardiner died of a brain hemorrhage. Incredibly rare offering is this copy of the unpublished book, "An Athlete Dying Young: The Story of Charlie Gardiner", written by Antonia Chambers as a masters degree thesis and copyrighted in 1989. This extremely scarce copy was acquired from Art Coulter and displays the tome's 344 pages neatly filed individually in plastic sheets. Fantastic hockey research find.
