Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Absolutely amazing piece of Chicago Black Hawks dinner is original owner Frederic McLaughlin's personal copy of the inaugural team dinner menu. The full team name is printed on the cover along with the date (August 28, 1926), time (8:00 pm) and location (Drake Hotel) of the celebration of the newly-christened NHL expansion team. This very delicate and extremely light four-page paper affair measures 5" x 7 3/4" with handwritten notations on the menu and "Programme" pages inside the fold as well as pencil notations on the reverse, including train schedule and "Irene's Bags", referring to McLaughlin's wife, the film actress and dancer, Irene Castle. Various light stains do not diminish this historic Black Hawks relic, which was obtained from McLaughlin's son, William and is the earliest Black Hawks artifact our consignor has encountered.
