Great original late-1960s Detroit Red Wings Lefty Wilson game-worn goalie mask comes with a cool story. A goalie mask pioneer who made Terry Sawchuk's masks, Wilson gifted this vintage custom-made mask back in the day to a "La Soiree du Hockey" producer who put together a TV report on goalie masks featuring the late Red Wings trainer prior to a Red Wings-Canadiens game at the Montreal Forum. The producer went to return the mask after the shoot but Wilson told him he could keep it and give it to "the kid", the producer's younger brother, who was on hand. Lefty said that the goalie this mask belonged to had a new one made and no longer needed it. Roy Edwards wore a similar Lefty Wilson mask in the late-1960s with the Red Wings and George Gardner also wore a similar mask in the early-1970s with the WHA Vancouver Blazers, and may have also worn one with Detroit in the late-1960s. This distinctive Red Wings game-worn Lefty Wilson creation retains most of its original paint and comes with its vintage straps and most of the original padding inside. The eye holes were slightly customized on this thin yet sturdy mask which displays no cracks. An amazing treasure for a goalie mask display!
