Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Sabres fans have nothing but fond memories of the 1970s heyday of The French Connection. Hall of Fame center Gilbert Perreault was flanked by the late Richard Martin on the left and Rene Robert on the right, the trio of Quebecers forming one of the most sensational forward lines in NHL history. French Connection memorabilia lot from the personal collection of former Sabres defenseman Garry Galley features a signed Victoriaville limited edition French Connection commemorative stick. The line was honored by the Sabres on November 15, 1995 during the team’s final season at the old Aud. “The French Connection – Limited Edition” and “133 of 500” are stamped on the shaft of this special stick. Perreault, Martin and Robert each signed in black marker on the back of the blade to the left of the French Connection logo in Sabres colors. The stick remains in beautiful condition overall with a red-colored stain on the back of the shaft that does not diminish its display. Martin, who died of a heart attack last spring, signed along with Perreault and Robert, who added the notation “Good Luck” to his black marker autograph, on a vintage 11x14 photo of all three members of the famed line in action against Philadelphia. The print is stamped “Photo by Bill Wippert” on the reverse. A program from “The Retirement of the French Connection” ceremony signed in black marker by Perreault, Martin and Robert is also included along with two tickets from the game, a 2-1 win over Dallas. The program, which folds out to three panels, has staple holes on either end to note. Garry Galley’s signed LOA is included.
