Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
This astonishing 14-karat gold medal was presented to Detroit Red Wings trainer Frank "Honey" Walker after the series between the Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Detroit, in only their second appearance in the finals, would go on to defeat Toronto three games to one to capture their first ever Stanley Cup victory. The medal, missing the navy blue ribbon we have seen on other examples, is one-inch in diameter and features two generic hockey players with "Stanley Cup Winners" in raised letters below. The back is engraved "NHL Champions, 1935-36, Detroit Red Wings, Frank Walker" and is stamped "14K" and "BIRKS". In outstanding condition, this rare Stanley Cup award is truly impressive and important.
