Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Here's all the evidence you need to know that Conn Smythe was completely in charge of business at Maple Leaf Gardens. Smythe's original signature and initials are all over this final lot of financial records from the venerable Toronto arena dated from October 24, 1946 to August 31, 1947. World War II was over and so was Smythe's longtime relationship with Frank Selke, who resigned in the summer of 1946 after a falling out with Smythe, whose signature appears on 13 documents in this lot, including one that features his original handwritten note. Smythe's initials appear on 13 of his own expense sheets and another 49 for other MLG employees. Foster Hewitt's original signature appears on four documents and Bob Davidson signed two others. "The British Treasury Cabinet Binding Case No 12" binder has "No. 13, Maple Leaf Gardens Limited" and "Journal Vouchers #3693-4088" written on its Grand & Toy label and is housed in its original 9 1/4" x 12 1/2" x 3 1/2" sleeve.
