Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

The playmaking centerman's numerous accomplishments were mostly the result of relentless hard work and dogged determination. Ted Kennedy was never known as a gifted skater, but his persistence earned him the esteem of teammates. Offered here are Kennedy's game skates, worn while playing with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The battered CCM Pro-Lite boots and blade show loads of use and are marked "11" on the bottom of the plates. Although the registered patent date is listed as 1934, we believe these date back to the 1940s. Also included is a heavily-worn set of Kennedy's shoulder pads. The thick leather pads have a stitched number "9" on one breast and show more than one season's worth of wear. One padding section has become detached but has been saved and would not be difficult to restore. This set offered the bare minimum in protection and certainly would not suffice in today's hard-hitting game. Obtained from the family of former Leafs' captain Ted Kennedy, complete with their signed letter of provenance.
