Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Craftsmen entrusted with the engraving of Lord Stanley's grail after the Maple Leafs' 1951 Stanley Cup victory seemingly rushed the job at hand. Ted Kennedy's name was misspelled "KENNEDYY" with an extra "Y". His position as Captain was also left off the Stanley Cup. Offered is Teeder's ornate silver box, presented for his part in the Stanley Cup win. The top features a raised and sculpted Stanley Cup design with "Ted Kennedy, 1951" inscribed just below. The classic box, marked on the back with "Old English Reproduction", is crafted silver plated copper, according to stampings. The hinged lid lifts to reveal space for cigarettes or trinkets and the overall size is just about 4" square and 1 1/2" in height. Preserved over the decades in excellent condition. Obtained from the family of former Leafs' captain Ted Kennedy, complete with their signed letter of provenance.
