Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
This is the original, a Canada Cup personal trophy from the 1976 inaugural edition of the great international hockey competition. Darryl Sittler's overtime goal for Team Canada in the second game of the tournament final against Czechoslovakia became the iconic image of this great Canadian triumph. Bobby Orr mustered an outstanding performance in his swan song on the international stage and Rogie Vachon stepped up in the absence of Dryden and Parent to lead a great Canadian team that featured the combined talents of Hull, Lafleur, Clarke, Potvin, Robinson, Savard and Lapointe, to name just a few. This distinctive half maple leaf trophy stands approximately 12" tall and exhibits the bulging and cracking that are common with this particular award. A small plaque on the base of the trophy indicates that it was originally presented to Team Canada executive Lee Dillion.
