The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
The 1931-32 season was a spectacular success for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team moved into its brand new home, Maple Leaf Gardens, at the beginning of the season and capped off the building’s inaugural season with a Stanley Cup win over the New York Rangers. This wonderful photo and autograph tribute to the team presented in a 30” x 23” wood frame features a team photo and the original signatures of Bailey, Clancy, Finnigan, Darragh and Horner. The photo of the 1931-32 Maple Leafs shows the Stanley Cup resting on Maple Leaf Gardens ice directly in front of Conn Smythe, the team’s owner and architect. The display also features the cover of an original Maple Leaf Gardens program from the inaugural season with a member of the Leafs skating on the cover above two boxing images, and the pennants of all 10 NHL teams along with a green maple leaf. Clancy’s original signature appears in blank ink directly beneath an inset picture of the Hall of Fame defenceman. A separate sheet has autographs from Finnigan, Darragh, Horner and Bailey, who offers “best wishes”. The items are beautifully mounted in a “Skate marks on ice” silver matte with a blue accent.
