The 1967 expansion brought royalty to the NHL in the form of the Los Angeles Kings. The regal purple and golden yellow colors worn through the California team’s first 20 seasons were crowned by the spectacularly detailed crest on the front of their jerseys. This circa 1969-71 game-worn jersey with four team repairs bears the No. 22, which was worn by a number of players during those years. Goodman & Sons tagging has a size 46 fly tag that has frayed red threads on the outer edge, with “S” (size small) and laundry instruction tagging to the right, all inside the left rear tail. The distinctive crown crest exhibits puckering, as do the numbers on the back and both sleeves and more game wear includes inner pilling, board burns and marks on the tails.
The team repairs include a vertical sewing fix above the left upper edge of the crest, a three-inch long one on the lower right sleeve and a smaller one just below it and to the right, and another in the yellow band on the right sleeve. Some of the stitching has let go on the reinforced elbows on the interior of the jersey, which exhibits good wear. Stitching has let go on a small portion of the right cuff on the interior of the jersey as well.
Bryan Campbell is listed as having worn Nos. 11 and 22 while playing 31 games for the 1969-70 Kings; Al McDonough wore No. 22 for six games in 1970-71, and Gary Dineen is listed in the Vancouver Canucks opening home game program on Oct. 9, 1970 as wearing No. 22, but stats do not show him playing any games.
