A veteran of 166 WHA games over the course of four (4) seasons, Jim Benezelock would also be drafted 5th overall by the Minnesota North Stars at the 1968 NHL Amateur Draft but never suit up with the club or in the National Hockey League. Offered here, we present this WHA Chicago Cougars uniform set consisting of jersey, pants and socks worn by Benzelock during the team and league's inaugural season of 1972-73. For the jersey, a Rawlings made dureen garment that features both Rawlings and Gunzo's labels sewn inside the reverse hem, the Rawlings tag inside the hem displays a size "44" designation. Decorated over the front with a beautiful tackle twill and chain-stitched Cougars team crest, Hatoum's number "12" has been sewn the front, sleeves and reverse in single layer tackle twill numerals. With evidence of a formerly affixed nameplate present across the top of the back, the jersey exhibits game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and near the right cuff while team repairs are observed over the reverse and both sleeves. Additionally, numerous small holes are found throughout the jersey, including some caused by removal of the nameplate while staining is present throughout the jersey as well, heaviest on the backside of the right sleeve. Void of a fight strap on the interior, some light pilling is found at both elbows. For the pants, green nylon construction shorts made by WinnWell with the tag still affixed on the interior, white and yellow accent stripes are found over each side with an additional fly tag on the interior displaying a size "40" designation. Fully padded with all the suspended buttons still affixed over the waist, the pants show moderate wear via some stick marks, board burns, staining and rusting to the suspender buttons while the suspenders themselves are still affixed though the leather end at the left side has ripped. Remaining relatively clean on the interior, a stamp reading "PHX99 - Made in Canada - 4" is found over the tailbone pad. Finally, the socks, measuring roughly 32" each in total length, both display with washing instructions tags affixed inside the interior at the top and are a match for the white jersey. Showing wear via stick marks, stains/light soiling, pilling, unrepaired cuts/holes and team repairs, red and blue coloured stains are also observed over each.
