Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

With notable alumni including Andre Lacroix, Ernie Wakely and HOFer Harry Howell, the San Diego Mariners were active for three seasons in the WHA, advancing to the Avco Cup semifinals in their inaugural season. We have a Mariners jersey that was worn by first-year St Louis Blues member Gary Veneruzzo in 1976-77, and was likely donned by one or more players that season, with this the club’s final year in the WHA. A Rawlings label with “48” sizing is affixed to the collar, with a "skating skipper" club patch over the right shoulder. Styled with “San Diego” placed diagonally across the chest in dual-colour tackle twill, “17” appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material, with “Veneruzzo” heat-pressed over the nameplate in white vinyl letters. Notorious for re-using and reattaching nameplates, this sweater does show evidence of at least one nameplate change.
In beautiful condition, a few scrape marks are visible across the front, with a pair of very small stains within the front band. A couple small holes are also present over the reverse, with a few repairs to the left of the nameplate.
