Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
An integral component of the New York Mets 1986 World Series victory, Gary Carter had previously spent parts of 11 seasons in Montreal with the Expos, where his number has since been retired. Hailing from the collection of Paul Gauvreau who was an assistant trainer with the Expos in 1980, we have a catcher’s mitt that was used by the Hall of Famer circa late-1970s, and it’s been signed. A Wilson A2403 Professional Model, the stampings all remain legible, with an inserted Wilson cloth patch over the thumb section. Gary’s “8” appears handwritten on the backside of the pocket and over the pinkie section. Great use is exhibited, with wear and darkening to the pocket, with the leather remaining supple. Carter has signed along the right side of the pocket including his number, and the signature displays beautifully. An LOA for the signature will accompany.
