Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2023
A thought-provoking and historic utilitarian relic that will bring the owner right back to youthful glory days of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1930s, we offer Frank Finnigan's personal Leafs travel suitcase. Originating from his personal collection and seeing use in the 1930s when "The Shawville Express" wore #12 (1931-32, 1935-36 and 1936-37), the large and sturdy case with metal-riveted reinforced corners sports a painted maple leaf in blue, with "Toronto Maple Leafs" painted overtop in white. His number "12" is also painted beneath the leather handle, with a worn decal on the reverse. The suitcase shows wear commensurate with it's lengthy prior use, including some rusting/discolouration to the metal components. All in all, the case remains especially sturdy. Unique items ideal for display and used by prominent players almost a century past rarely surface, with this suitcase once owned and used by Frank Finnigan an absolute prize for Leafs collectors.
