A Calder and Vezina Trophy winner in his rookie season with the Hawks, Ed Belfour also finished his time in Chicago third among all Black Hawks goalies for games played and wins, behind fellow Hall of Famers Tony Esposito and Glenn Hall. This lot contains a Black Hawks jersey worn by Belfour in 1993-94, and it’s been photo-matched. The collar retains its correct Maska and size tagging, with additional embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the bottom hem. Accented with a gorgeous team crest and matching tomahawk patches over both shoulders, the garment also features dual-colour tackle twill numbers. Getty images from January 8th 1994 have been matched to the blacks marks on the "3" of "30" on the right sleeve, to a few black marks on the right sleeve, to a mark in the lower portion of the "3" of "30" on the left sleeve, to the black mark/repair at the right of the team's crest, and to the outline of the former patch on the breast. An LOA from Ed Belfour will come with this important sweater.
We should note that the Stanley Cup Centennial patch was removed from the breast and the jersey was most likely patched-up with the Centennial patch as a back-up, but worn in the following 1993-94 season with the patch removed. According to a Black Hawks jersey expert, this set of jersey’s were mainly used in the 2nd half of the season and in the playoffs of 1993-94. Game-use on the Hall of Fame sweater includes assorted dark marks on both sleeve’s including the numbers, and over the right breast. There is also fabric pulls and piling, especially on the left sleeve near the cuff. The garment also exhibits a number of team repairs, with 8 on the front, 2 on the left sleeve, and 2 large examples on back to the left of the numbers. As mentioned, this jersey has been photo-matched. Getty images #156799438 and #157236926 have been matched to the marks on the right sleeve, Getty image #157237133 has been matched to the evidence showing of a former patch, and Getty image #72574315 has been matched to the marks on the left sleeve.
