Blossoming under the tutelage of legendary Russian goaltender Vladislav Tretiak, Ed Belfour received guidance from the iconic HOFer during his rookie era in Chicago, and later payed tribute by wearing Tretiak’s #20 for the second half of his career (Belfour wore #31 during his rookie season in 1988-89). This photo-matched blocker and glove combo was used by Belfour during his rookie season in the Windy City, in 1988-89, and later in practices, with each signed by Tretiak. First, the blocker was produced by Brown, with the original cloth patch over the wrist padding as well as the lacing gone, with Tretiak signing over the top section of the front in black marker, with the autograph blending into the background marks slightly. The glove is in Hawks’ colours and was produced by Brian’s, with Vladislav signing a thin white section over the back of the pocket in black marker, with the signature standing out nicely. A signed LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany.
The blocker shows heavy use, with numerous puck marks littering the front, with heavy rubbing and wear to the material throughout. There are also a few small tears, with a small piece of interior styrofoam sticking out. An included numeric image has been matched to some of the black marks present, with a number of the marks shown on the photo-match image washed-out from the blocker being used by Belfour afterwards in practices, with the outline of the section that originally housed the Brown manufacturers label visible. The glove also shows heavy and repeated use, with a small styrofoam-backed piece crudely added over the pocket by way of skate lace. There are numerous small tears, with considerable rubbing to the leather in spots. Getty Image #73574721 has been matched to marks around the "Brian's" lettering over the cuff.
