Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

The most successful American NHL franchise with 11 Stanley Cup championships, the Detroit Red Wings began life in 1926 as the Cougars, with the club’s most recent title occurring in 2008. From the mid-1970s, we have a Red Wings #27 jersey. Rawlings labeling with “46” sizing is affixed to the collar, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 48. Styled with the classic winged-wheel team crest with embroidered detailing, “27” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill. There is also evidence of the removal of a large nameplate, with the stitching loose on areas of the reverse numbers (visible from the interior), with moderate overall game-use exhibited. There are a few marks and burns over the front and sleeves along with light pilling, with team repairs on the left shoulder and sleeve. We should also note that Jim Rutherford & Denis DeJordy are listed as wearing the number #27 jersey in 1973-74, while Phil Roberto & Brian McCutcheon donned the number in 1974-75.
