Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Enjoying a noteworthy career backstopping six different NHL clubs despite going undrafted, Curtis Joseph attended the University of Wisconsin for one season before making his NHL debut for St Louis, in 1989-90. The first goaltender to register thirty (30) or more wins with five (5) different teams, finishing his career with 454 victories and currently sitting seventh (7th) all-time, Joseph would also play in three (3) NHL All-Star Games before retiring after the 2008-09 season. Offered here, we present this stick issued to Cujo for his use during his time with the Edmonton Oilers in the mid-1990s that has been signed by him as well as a Maple Leafs replica jersey that has been signed by him as well. Starting with the stick, a Louisville TPS Gold model twig with "Joseph" stamped over the lower portion of the shaft, the stick has had black tape added over the knob, not by Joseph himself, while the blade has never had any tape wrapped around it. Remaining in overall good condition with some handling marks and abrasions present throughout, the stick has been signed by Joseph over the blade on the forehand side with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue while an inscription reading "All the best" is found alongside it in matching ink. Additionally, also included with the stick is a replica Maple Leafs jersey that has also been signed by the highly regarded netminder. Made by Starter and sporting both brand and size "L" are affixed to the inner collar while Maple Leafs logo patches appear over the front and both shoulders. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Joseph's number "31" in single layer white twill numerals, "Joseph" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. In overall good condition despite spot stains throughout, Cujo has signed through the top of the front crest with a blue marker ink signature that displays well despite some signs of age. A great pairing of items, a JSA Auction LOA will accompany the lot.
