Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Well remembered historically for the benefit game played to assist the family of fallen superstar Howie Morenz, the 1937-38 NHL season featured captain Charlie Conacher and the Toronto Maple Leafs topping the Canadian Division before losing a hard-fought, four-game Stanley Cup Final to Chicago. Similar to the pendants the Stanley Cup-champion Black Hawks were awarded, this 1937-38 NHL champions pendant was originally awarded to owner Conn Smythe. At just under 1” in diameter and with a weight of 9 grams, the small gold pendant features a pair of embossed generic players on the obverse encompassed by “National Hockey League Champions”, while the reverse sports engraved text including “Toronto Maple Leafs”, “Conn Smythe” and “1937-38”, with “10K” and “Birks” stamped beneath. Exhibiting just light wear, the important keepsake remains in gorgeous condition.
