Hockey Memorabilia Auction - Spring 2008

The New York Islanders in 1983 became the only team in NHL history other than the Montreal Canadiens to win four straight Stanley Cups. This precious white Islanders jersey is the one Clark Gillies wore during the team’s run through the playoffs that included wins over Washington, the archrival New York Rangers and Boston before they cast aside Edmonton to defend their title for the third time in a row. While Gillies was limited to eight playoff games, Conn Smythe winner Billy Smith held Wayne Gretzky’s precocious Oilers to six goals in a four-game sweep. Gillies’ familiar No. 9 is written in black marker on the original Size 52 Sandow Sporting Knit tag sewn onto the neck of the jersey. It features tackle twill numbers and its original looped fight strap. The jersey exhibits light inside pilling and moderate game use with good stick marks on the sleeves and a few stick marks and puck marks on the front. This wonderful jersey comes along with Clark Gillies’ signed letter of authenticity and is photomatched to the Stanley Cup final game.
